3M™ Controltac™ Plus Graphic Film Series 180 on mirrors featured on the “Divine Design” show with Candice Olson
How could Candice make the basement feel bright and open when there was only one small window?
In every episode of Divine Design, interior designer Candice Olson, along with the Divine Design crew, transforms a stale room into a fresh and functional living space. Television
viewers are delighted by the creativity Candice demonstrates. She makes interior design look easy, but anyone who’s gone through a home renovation project knows that it’s not. Every room has a least one design challenge. Sean and Cara’s basement was no exception.
Candice decided to incorporate two large ceiling-to-floor mirrors into the room decor. “The mirrors created the illusion of windows and bounced light around the room,” said Alissa Morrison, producer of the Divine Design show. They also became the showcase for a hockey player and football player graphic created with 3M™ Controltac™ Plus Graphic Film Series 180 donated by the 3M™ Canada Commercial
Graphics Marketing Team. The images were inspired by Sean and Cara. Sean plays football with the Arizona Cardinals and Cara was a member of the Canadian Womens National Hockey Team. The graphics
were completed by Continental Decal Ltd., an authorized 3M™ Scotchprint manufacturer of digital printing.
“Continental Decal were fantastic and provided an extremely fast turnaround,” explained Alissa. They got the call on Wednesday afternoon; the graphics needed to be installed the following Monday. Everyone worked together. Continental
staff received the artwork and specifications on Thursday morning. Then the 3M™ staff went to work sourcing the required material. The film was delivered to Continental’s shop on Friday morning. Cutting and weeding of the graphics was wrapped up late that night. “The 3M™ staff are terrific to work with,” said Farida Schain, vice president of Continental
Decal. “We couldn’t have done this job in the required time frame without their help in sourcing the material.” Once the complex graphics
were finished, the focus of the job turned to installation.
Alberto Cruz, a Continental Decal installer, fondly remembers installation
day. “It was very hot the day the graphics were installed. This made the job a little trickier,” explained Alberto. He could not pull the vinyl too hard or it would stretch. Because of the temperature
and the requirement to produce
each color of the graphics as a separate piece, the installation required an experienced installer. “Even Candice got involved in the installation,” said Alberto, “I took advantage of her height; she helped to position the top portion of the graphic.” With the graphics installed, the only thing left was to wait for the home owners’ reveal.
How did home owners Sean and Cara react during the reveal?
“Over-the-top happiness, blown away,” Alissa Morrison reported. “All the hard work and long hours pay off in that one moment. When you see their first reaction, their faces, their smiles, sometimes their tears of joy, screams, some people dance around ... it’s that moment that makes it all worthwhile,” she said. Because Candice and the Divine Design crew rely on professional
installers and suppliers, like Continental Decal and 3M™, they have a perfect track record. In 140 reveals, no home owner has ever been disappointed with the final result.
