3M CANADA HELPS WITH ALBERTA FLOOD RELIEF
London ON (August 21 2013) – 3M Canada announced today its donation of more than $50,000 in personal safety, sanitization, cleaning, construction and home improvement products to Albertans rebuilding their communities following the devastating floods that took place this summer. This support will help flood victims get back into their homes as quickly and safely as possible.
“With employees across the country, including throughout Alberta, we wanted to do whatever we could to solve their most pressing problems,” said Paul Madden, President and General Manager, 3M Canada. “3M Canada’s specialty is problem solving, so we worked with local non-profit organizations and the Siksika First Nation in Alberta to find solid solutions to the problems caused by the flooding.”
A committee of 3M employees was formed to identify the best ways to provide assistance. The first step was connecting with local relief organizations such as Samaritan’s Purse, Bridges of Love, and the Calgary Foundation, as well as directly with communities like the Siksika First Nation and High River. This helped identify the areas that were most in need, and necessities that were most needed.
3M Canada’s contributions included safety glasses and respirators to protect those involved with the clean-up, as well as hand sanitizer, duct tape, Scotch-Brite cleaning supplies and Nexcare bandages. In addition to safety product donations, the company donated two diesel generators to the Siksika First Nation to help address their immediate needs following damage to the power grid, and also provided air purifiers to clean the air in family homes.
“It’s part of the 3M culture to help our communities thrive. I’m proud of the way our employees stepped up on a moment’s notice, and I’m amazed at the energy and compassion shown by our partners,” said Madden. “The people of Alberta have shown amazing resilience, and I am pleased 3M Canada has been able to help.”
